EIGHTIES chart topper Rick Astley was a millionaire by the age of 22 and the song that made him famous is a classic.
But what else do we know about him? Here, the star discusses love, life and what he’s learned.
What scares you?
Planes do a bit. The dark, too, but not so I can’t sleep at night or walk down a street.
Which word do you overuse?
It would have to be a swear word beginning with “f”. I say it a lot. I try to tone it down in public, although it hasn’t gone well today.
What’s your worst habit?
My wife [Lene, 53] would say it’s saying: “Do you know what I mean?” too much. Do you know what I mean?!
Who or what is the love of your life?
My wife and daughter [Emilie, 27].
Who would you invite to a dinner party?
I’ve been listening to The Beatles a lot and I’d love to get them together, just to be able to see the banter and how they’d be today.
How often do you have sex?
Wahey! I’d say not enough, like any married couple probably.
What makes you angry?
Bad design. I’m becoming really old-manish. Often hotels and houses make things look good but they don’t work.
Leave or remain?
Don’t get me started! I never understood why the question was put out in the first place. I think the whole thing is ridiculous – we are European whether we like it or not.
Favourite movie?
It would have to be Spartacus with Kirk Douglas. Then Gladiator, which is the new Spartacus in my life.
What was your favourite TV show as a child?
Clangers.
What’s your earliest memory?
Holding a monkey in Cornwall when I was about three. My mum and dad were still together; I’m sure it was all falling apart, but the picture in my mind is of a happy family on holiday.
Who was your first kiss?
I think it was Diane Millington. I was about nine or 10.
If you could travel back in time, where would you go?
As long as I wasn’t one of the riff-raff, I’d go back to Ancient Rome.
What would you like your epitaph to be?
“He wasn’t a bad fella.”
What’s the worst pain you’ve experienced?
I had a couple of cortisone injections for tennis elbow, otherwise known as drummer’s elbow. That was pretty painful.
How do you relax?
Movies are a massive thing in our life. My wife is a film producer, but we both love going to the cinema.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee. I love tea though as well. Big time. We take our own tea everywhere.
What has been your greatest achievement?
It’s as corny as hell, but I’d have to say our daughter. She’s amazing.
What is top of your bucket list?
I’d like to play at the Hollywood Bowl.
What would you consign to Room 101?
Bad wine.

Most famous person in your phone?
Dave Grohl and Elton John.
Best and worst qualities?
My best is I’m a good friend and my worst is I can be lazy about things I don’t care about.
