The footage shot at his home in Milipitas, California, US, shows him switch on an antique TV before slotting the video in a player.

He posted the clip to Twitter, writing: “I found a VHS tape at the junk store that just had the label “A surprise!” I thought I’d check it out , since I have a VCR and TV hooked up after all. Just … Just watch.”

As the screen flicks into life the familiar sight of 80s pop icon Rick Astley can be seen – in the video to his No.1 single Never Gonna Give You Up.

It’s an example of internet prank Rickrolling which reached its peak a decade ago.

The trick saw web users fooled into clicking on a link that took them to the video to 52-year-old Rick’s 1987 hit.

An April 2008 survey estimated that at least 18million American adults had been rickrolled.

The clip ends with Foone throwing the tape in the bin.

Foone added on Twitter: “Arguably having forgotten about rickrolling makes the rickrolling even better.”

He also revealed that he grabbed the tape out of the bin after he stopped filming.

Asked how much the video cost him he explained: “I think it was a dollar. They might have just thrown it in free cause I was buying some other bigger stuff ( a laptop, I think?) My local junk store has a lot of fuzzy pricing.”

One web user joked: “Anyone who buys random VHS tapes from junk shops hasn’t watched enough horror films.”
